The New Era of Men's and Women's Rings - Titanium and Tungsten By Shawn A Wilson

Over the last 10-15 years, but more recently in the last couple years, a change has swept the wedding ring industry for the new leaders of competition; Titanium and Tungsten rings; and for good reasoning.
If you check out our site, one of the first things you will notice is the low prices of both Titanium and Tungsten rings. You may see them and say "look at the cheap prices of Titanium and Tungsten rings!" True, but inexpensive is the correct wording because there is nothing "cheap" about them, but more importantly are the unique properties of Titanium and Tungsten and why they both make an exceptional wedding ring or band, especially for men, however, women are now into this new era of rings. Out with the gold rings and in with the Titanium and Tungsten rings.
The most appealing thing about Titanium and Tungsten other than their beauty is their properties. Some quick facts about Titanium rings, and why these rings make an excellent choice. First you will notice the light weight of Titanium rings and this may lead you to believe these are not strong rings. However, quite the contrary! Titanium rings are made of approximately 90% titanium with usually copper, aluminum, and vanadium to add to their hardness. But more importantly is Titanium (and Tungsten alike) are both hypoallergenic which is huge advantage when compared to Gold and Sterling Silver. This means that most anyone can wear these rings. Titanium rings are also resistant to many things that separate them from the gold and silver rings. This includes sea water, chlorine, and many acids, making another great reason to opt for Titanium rings as great wedding ring or band. Don't let the light weight of Titanium rings fool you; in fact this is very strong and durable material, however, much more comfortable to wear due to their weight. Titanium rings are available in both men's and women's rings.
Tungsten rings are just as unique if not even more unique in their own way. Tungsten rings are much more dense which makes them heavier. However when choosing Tungsten there are two key components you should check for. This is Tungsten Cobalt (a bad choice which can cause allergies, and well as other unwanted things), however, most Tungsten rings marketed for sale today are Tungsten Carbide, an excellent choice in choosing your Tungsten ring! First Tungsten Carbide is virtually scratch resistant and referred to the always polished ring. It is ranked under Diamond on the Mohs scale as the one of the strongest of all. A Diamond on the Mohs scale is a 10. Tungsten Carbide ranks about a 9! Tungsten Carbide is about 10 stronger than 18k gold and melting point of 5198 degrees! Due to this unique property, Tungsten Carbide will stay permanently polished (except for diamonds which can scratch them). The only down side to this, is that it cannot be sized once made (and making Tungsten rings is a whole different topic).
Tungsten Carbide rings are also hypoallergenic. Tungsten ring or rather Tungsten Carbide rings are very popular for men. In fact many sites will specifically say "men's tungsten rings." But even though men are choosing them; there is now been a big interest and push with women's tungsten rings. This may be due to durability and Mohs hardness scales, making them near impossible to scratch and dull with common every day use. The other factor may be that men and women when choosing rings for a wedding, etc. will choose a "couples set" that includes the men's in a larger size and width, and the women's of course smaller sizes and width sizes. However, this all based on an individual choice. Some women may want an 8-9 mm width ring, and same holds true for men in that they some may prefer 6-8 mm width. The nice thing about this "new era" is there is really "no standard" per say. It is up to the individual or couple and with the designs out now, the sky's the limit!
Many jewelry stores are making huge profits with the high demand; however, you can find beautiful brushed, polished, insets, etc. in both Titanium and Tungsten. So instead of paying "gold" prices for Titanium and Tungsten that many jewelry stores are charging by marking it up 500-800% (yes this is the cold hard truth, even 1000%); many places choose not to mark-up these rings like gold or set out to take advantage of people in an economy where weddings still continue, but your budget does not have to be spent on your rings.
Many places you will find all your beautiful authentic Titanium and Tungsten rings from $9.00 (basic titanium rings) to $60.00-$100 dollars (depending on the ring, design, etc.) for the exact same thing as in the jewelry stores without the 800% mark-up! Of course as the Tungsten and Titanium rings evolve and couples are turning to these rings due to all of the above; you can now find these rings with Diamonds and other stones, just like other wedding rings which will increase the price due to Diamond prices. But for very nice Tungsten and Titanium bands, which include different designs, and colors like black (a very popular choice), you don't have to break your budget on expensive gold, platinum, and other rings. You can now have your beautiful rings and as unique as you like, and have money left for the wedding, anniversary, or whatever the occasion!
